Abstract
The 19th Venice Architecture Biennale opened on May 10 with the theme “Intelligens. Naturally. artificially. Collectively.”Curating brings nature, artificial and collective intelligence to the juxtaposition of climate adaptation and architectural collaboration.
2025 Timeline and Evidence
The exhibition is curated by Carlo Ratti and opens until November 23.
The topic links intelligence to the Latin word gens, emphasizing multiple knowledge and actors.
The exhibition invites the participation of science, engineering, art and social practice outside the building.
In-depth research
Building intelligence is no longer the same as adding sensors.Natural systems, local experience, material behaviour and public consultation are also sources of information; technology can only enhance adaptive capacity if it is informed by this knowledge.
Design Response Design Response
Establish three types of knowledge maps of nature, technology and community in the early part of the project.
Prototype the system's performance under extreme conditions.
Identify nodes that still require manual judgment in automated decision-making.
AURELIS observation
This biennial pushes architects from a single author to a coordinator: it’s not about controlling all the variables, it’s about organizing multiple intelligences.
